Ice Cream Banana

Musa acuminata x balbisiana 'Blue Java'

Blue-tinged fruit with soft, custard-textured flesh that really does taste faintly of vanilla ice cream. Hardier and more wind-firm than most bananas, which matters in Florida.

Growing Ice Cream Banana in Central Florida

Full sun, rich soil, and more water and fertiliser than you think is reasonable. Keep two or three suckers per clump and cut the rest. The stalk that fruits then dies; cut it out and let a sucker take over.
