Mauritius Lychee

Litchi chinensis 'Mauritius'

Crimson, pebbled shells over translucent, floral, grape-sweet flesh. Mauritius is the most consistent lychee bearer in Florida, though like all lychees it wants a cool dry winter spell to flower well.

Growing Mauritius Lychee in Central Florida

Full sun and acidic, well-drained soil. Do not fertilise in autumn: lychees need a cool, dry, lean period to initiate bloom. Protect young trees from frost for the first three winters.
