Alano Sapodilla

Manilkara zapota 'Alano'

Brown-skinned fruit with flesh that tastes like a pear soaked in brown sugar. Sapodilla is drought and salt tolerant, nearly pest free, and absurdly under-planted in Florida.

Growing Alano Sapodilla in Central Florida

Full sun. Very tolerant of poor soil and drought once established. Slow growing. Let fruit soften fully off the tree before eating; underripe sapodilla is unpleasantly astringent.
